Still busy with the ships.

I haven't done much in the way of a game for a couple of weeks but I have painted up a couple of battleships and made some torpedo markers too.

HMS King George V on the left and the Tirpitz.
I glued the turrets on pointing in various directions to aid easy recognition from the KGV's sister ship.
The Tirpitz is a Revell Bismarck but is really the Tirpitz as she has torpedo tubes amidships.
I didn't match the blue on my torpedo markers with the blue sheet very well but I will be able to see them easier.

I have finalised the rules and ship stats also, the only area that needs testing is the air attack section.

Battle Fleet : Atlantic in action!.

Here is a scenario adapted from the Battle Fleet Gothic rule book, it involves an attempt to breakout through a blockade.

Scharnhorst and Prinz Eugen dash for the open seas hoping to evade the Royal Navy.
The Prince of Wales comes into range of the Scharnhorst.
The British battleship locks on to the Scharnhorst.
HMS Hood gets into position for a broadside.
The Scharnhorst takes heavy damage from all that fire power, losing B turret and catching fire.
The Tribal class destroyers launch torpedoes into the fray.
But the Prinz Eugen passes a leadership test and goes "Full Steam Ahead" narrowly avoiding the torpedoes. These torpedo markers are from Battlefleet Gothic, I will make some soon.
The Prinz Eugen also carries torpedoes and launches them at the Prince Of Wales but they don't inflict any critical damage.
The destroyers have successfully reloaded and relaunch torpedoes at the Prinz Eugen.
Oh dear!. The Prinz Eugen suffers a massive explosion and sinks.
The Scharnhorst looks on, the fire is out and B turret repaired but the Royal Navy are closing in.
The end, the Scharnhorst is reduced to a drifting wreck.

The fleets are ready

A brace of Battlecruisers arrived in the post on Friday, they are both Revell Gneisenaus and I intended to use one as the Scharnhorst but upon checking the model out it seems that the Revell Gneisenau is really the Scharnhorst.

I used the internet to find plans for the two sister ships who although being sisters were definitely not twins.
Any way the conversion was made much easier than it would have been if the model had been accurate.

Don't get me wrong, the Revell model is very good and more sturdy than the Airfix 1/1200 ships.

 My German fleet.
 My British fleet.
 A Tribal class Destroyer.
 HMS Ark Royal.
 HMS Suffolk.
 The mighty Hood.
  HMS Prince of Wales.

I might get some games in soon, I love battleships, me!...

Battle Fleet Atlantic

Battle Fleet Atlantic is my working title for my naval wargame ruleset and is a hybrid of an old homebrew set of mine and Battle Fleet Gothic, Games Workshops spaceship game.

It's a bit of a rip off really...

Battle Fleet Gothic relies heavily on blast markers as a game mechanic and I have transposed them into shell splash markers for this.
These shots are from several test games.

The Prince of Wales on "special orders, all ahead full", another good mechanic nicked from BFG.

I can live with the scale/ranges issue on such a small table.
The rules are coming on well now and just require more balance regarding firepower/damage.

Then I've got torpedoes and planes to deal with...

Fifty shades of battleship grey

Work continues with the 1/1200 scale ships, as I don't have a single pot of grey paint to my name I've had to mix all of my colours.
I use Games Workshop acrylics mainly and mix Bleached Bone with Chaos Black to achieve most of my colours. A bit of Skull White and some Enchanted Blue also get added to the mix at times.

The Bismarck and the Prince of Wales.
The Prince of Wales is really a Revell Duke of York kit.
Airfix Bismarck with yellow turret tops.
There are about six shades of grey on this model!.
Shell splash markers - Milliput over a screw glued onto a washer.
The Prince of Wales under fire!.
 Still to do.
