Memoir '44 on the Eastern Front

I have had a few more games of Memoir '44, all of them very entertaining. Here are some shots of one fought on the Eastern Front.

 The Russians.
 And the Germans.
The Russians have some protected positions.
A Revell Hummel, an Armourfast StuG and Britannia infantry prepare to assault the Soviet positions.
The view from the Russian lines as the advance gets under way.

 Tank battle!.
 Italeri Russian artillery.
Russian infantry try to hold off the Panzers.
But the panzers breakthrough and kill off this KV-1.
Then the Russians counter attack with the Finest Hour card and destroy the panzers.
The Russians then advance to defeat the German infantry and win the game seven medals to six!.
Unfortunately the Airpower card didn't show up so the planes never got a go.

Great fun as usual with this great rules system.

Memoir '44 in 1/72nd scale

I was lucky enough to get a couple of board games for my birthday recently and have been playing them relentlessly until today. I got these beauties...

Both very good games, I am definitely leaning towards the board game side of the hobby nowadays. Another board game series I like very much is Richard Borgs Commands and Colors. Memoir '44 was the first that I bought and from then I have been hooked so today I dug out some of my 1/72 models and set up a game.
Here are some photos taken at the end of the game.
I just made up my own scenario rather than attempt a published one.
 Germans lurking in the woods.
The Airpower card gave me an excuse to deploy my Spitfire!.
An Airfix Sherman makes a breakthrough.

Great fun!, I have vague plans to make a pair of imaginary armies to play Memoir with.

A very generous gift

A very fine gentleman named Richard sent me these from Canada free of charge!. Look at them all!, there's hundreds of them.
The generosity of our wargaming community is a wonderful thing.
They are Irregular Miniatures SYW Austrians and Russians.
There are loads of Russian guns.
 And Austrian ones.
 Loads of cavalry too.
 Russian infantry.

I particularly like the Horse Grenadiers in the blue coats.

They will need some re-organisation to match my existing collection, but WOW this is one of the nicest things anyone has ever done for me.
